How can i find out if neighbor has pet insurance?

Question: How can i find out if neighbor has pet insurance?

(Posted by: What N on 2010-03-09 07:41:00)

Yesterday a friend of mine was attached by my neighbors dog. He did not bit him my friend was able to kick him off he's in the hospital now with a broken arm. How can I tell if he has house insurance or pet insurance for that dog. We are in Jacksonville, FL

Pet insurance is like health insurance - it covers the dog at the vet, not a person's broken arm. If he owns the house, he must have homeowners. If the dog was on his own property and the friend was in the dog's yard, he can be sued for kicking the dog.

You can't find out anything about your neighbor's insurance other than by asking them. That is private information - just like they can't find out about yours. If your friend wants to try to recover costs, he'll have to sue the neighbor.

You have to ask them. But it doesn't matter much, because you can't file a cliam, on someone ELSE'S homeowners insurance policy. It's not like car insurance. If the dog was out of his own yard, and attacked your friend, then friend can hire a lawyer and sue the owner for the damages the dog did. Pretty unusual, though, a dog attack with no bites.

You could ask him. Or you could sue him and see whether you are contacted by an insurance company or not.
