Question: Is there any way around paying this early cancellation charge on my car insurance?

I currently have a 1.6 Citroen C2 and I pay £120 a month just for insurance. I've just bought a brand new Ford Ka and I'm picking it up in 3 days. I've had quotes from over 30 car insurance companies saying my monthly premium will be around £53, or payment in one lump some of £570. I phoned my car insurance company to tell them of my change of car and they have said that my monthly premiums will change to £112 as from next week. I can't believe they are only dropping it by £8 when every other insurance company will only charge £50. This new car is only a 1.2. I told them I would like to leave them and get insurance elsewhere, but they said as I'm only 7 months into my policy they will charge me for every remaining month, they want over £500 off me just to cancel it. Is there any way around this? If I told them I've completely sold my car and don't have one anymore would they still force me to pay the remaining months? |
