My job is trying to take out money from my check for my dental/vision insurance all at once!?

Question: My job is trying to take out money from my check for my dental/vision insurance all at once!?

I work at a Dr's office and we have Unitedhealthcare ins. they pay for the medical and we are responsible for dental/ vision, which is supposed to get taken out of our checks every pay period. The problem is since the beginning of this year we changed over to another ins. company and payroll, and the lady that is handling the ins. hasn't sent over the paperwork about our ins. (dental/ vision) to the lady that does our pay roll. The manager said that when the money starts getting taken out of our check they will take out from the previous months all at once, so this will be quite a bit of money at one time out of our check. I just want to know if anyone knows if they are allowed to do this it does not seem right to me for us to be punished for someone else's mistake.

Same thing has happened to me. To be perfectly honest, I don't think there's a damn thing we can do about it. Technically, you do owe them money. But yeah, pretty crappy that they'll take it all out of one. I would ask someone in payroll if they would consider taking it out over a couple of pay periods to reduce the blow, but i don't think there's any legal backing.

Yes that's allowed. You had the coverage for those previous months and they are entitled to get paid for that. Since you know it's coming - start setting aside a little money from each pay check. That way, when the deduction happens - it does not hurt you so bad. It also sounds like its a one time thing. Then it goes back to being a monthly deduction.
