What are the 3 most important things you would look for in a real estate agent/team?

Question: What are the 3 most important things you would look for in a real estate agent/team?

(Posted by: Andrea B on 2008-08-11 18:00:32)

Also, if you were to try to sell your home, would you do it FSBO or use an agent/ team?

We are going through this right now. The things I am looking for in a real estate agent are 1) honesty (ha ha) Once we had a real estate agent who said to us "We're going to set a record (sale price) on Oak Street ". My house was not worth what she wanted to put it on the market for. I would have been embarrassed to have my home listed at that price. I don't want to rip people off- we are all interested in paying realistic prices for a home, not some over-inflated greedy price. The other part of honesty is knowing what is wrong with the house. This same realtor had said to me "no, no, don't tell me. Let them find out in the inspection ". That made her not liable for any damages or being sued if she didn't know about things. I thought that was very dishonest. If something is wrong, I want the future owner to know before they purchase the house, and find out from me, so they can ask the inspector about it. It's only fair. 2) A realtor that is as down to earth as I am. I live in a upper class neighborhood, and some of the people here get pretty snobby. I don't want to feel uncomfortable walking around looking at houses in shorts and a shirt. (they are nice shorts, thank you very much). I want the real estate person to understand what is important to me- such as a dry basement, and not a sunken tub with a window view- and not waste my time showing me something that I don't want. 3) I want a realtor with some experience (years) and who knows the town backwards and forwards. If she can say "You don't want to look at that house. I've seen it already, it's awful " that saves me time.

R.E agents are worse than used car salesmen, avoid them like the plague. Sell your home FSBO. Here is a way to see if someone will qualify to buy your house. Take the potential buyers joint income, multiply by 2, then add in how much they can put down. When you get a qualified buyer, tell them to contact your attorney to take it from there.
