I always assumed dentists and plastic surgons were freelance and just regulated by the bord of health....and moniterd for safe practices...if this was the case it would all be up to how successfull your practice was thus how much you could save in a pension, and how much time you could afford to take off....

Benefits/ retirement options would depend if you were in private practice or worked for another doctor. Expenses would include rent, purchase/ rental of equipment, medical supplies, office supplies, malpractice insurance, state/ federal fees for various licenses, employee salaries and the federal taxes for social security... the list goes on and on.
