England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all part of the same country, and there are no borders. You can travel directly through between England, Scotland and Wales, there are many many many many many through trains - e.g. London - Cardiff, London - Swansea, London - Carmarthen, Bristol - South Wales, Birmingham - Cardiff, Birmingham - Aberystwyth/ Pwllhelli, London - Holyhead, Manchester/ Merseyside - North Wales, London - Edinburgh, London - Glasgow, London - The Highlands, Bristol/ Reading - Birmingham - Scotland, and many many more too. Northern Ireland has railways, as does Ireland, and there is a train service between Belfast in the North and Dublin in the Republic. There are trains from big cities such as London and Birmingham that run to Holyhead to connect with boats across the Irish sea to Ireland, and you can buy through rail tickets between stations in the UK and Ireland which include travel on the boat. Last but not least, there is the Eurostar service from London St Pancras to Paris and Brussels through the Channel Tunnel. You can buy through tickets for Eurostar trains from most major stations in the UK. You can get pretty much anywhere in Europe by changing in Paris or Brussels. |
