Question: Is traveling/studying spanish in bogota safe for an asian female?

Hi there, I am choosing a South American country to study spanish in future. (I am currently learning spanish and I expect I can speak conversationally with locals by that time) I have a few options in my mind and Bogota is considered as my first choice. I am wondering, for anybody who ever traveled to Bogota, is it safe for an Asian female to travel/ study spanish in this city? Any honest and all- round advice will be appriciated.

Yes , Bogota is Absolutely safe,of course Bogota is a big metropolis and as result of that you are going to found crime,pick pockets, drug dealers and prostitution same is happened in another big cities. Bogota offers to you a opportunities to learn about Colombian culture along you are practice you spanish, is a lot of museum, theaters,art and off course night clubs. In Bogota you want to wear dress up, casual cloths or just jeans according also to the social environment you are going to be but for sure you don't want to wear luxury or jewelry while you walk in the street,that just will be call attention in robers and pick pockets. Colombia economies social class is divide in "estrato " and those are 1 to 6 be 1 the poor. For sure you want to be in 4-6 since neighbors at that class are more safe,but is comun also found nice condominiums surrounded in low class houses. when you be in Bogota you need to learn quick where is the bad areas where you don't want to be specially at night time. avoid the south of the town, the centro and la candelaria at night time for sure. Colombia offerd another big cities like Bucaramanga what is warm about 80 degrees and is also a college town, Medellin, cali are big cities also to consider.

Yes, it is VERY safe. I am glad you have Bogota as your first choice cause it has been categorized as the city with the best spanish speaking in South America. The city has lots of things to offer and like any other major cities in the world (we are talking 8 million people here) it has its bad neighbors and all, but you'll know and learn to stay away from those. Colombians are very friendly to foreigns and they will help you a lot at the beggining. Yes it is safe. Compared to other South_American capitals it is really a safe place.

Of course it's safe. Contrary to what's depicted in certain film of mediocre quality, Bogota's not a jungle. Are there muggers in the streets? Yes, but it also happens in New York, London, etc. Are there crimes? Yes, but it also happens in New York, London, etc. Are there racist groups? Yes, but it also happens in New York, London, etc. Are there mafia organisations? Yes, but it also happens in New York, London, etc.

Yes Its safe for an asian girl, bogota is the safest city in Colombia. I've also heard that colombians speak the best Spanish in Latin America and especially in bogota the capital, Godspeed.
